What do you know and what do you still need to find out?

"By making time for reflection, principals and teacher alike demonstrate their belief in the responsibility for their own learning.  Taking the time to reflect provides an opportunity to evaluate our past actions and build stronger activities and teaching situations."

Leading Learning Communities
, National Association of Elementary School Principals, 2001

After sharing your initial findings, you received feedback about your study. Consider how much of your colleagues' advice you'll heed. Decide what additional evidence you need to complete your study. Continue to keep your Observation & Reflection Log as you gather that information.

When you think you have enough evidence to reach a reasonable conclusion, it is time to summarize and consider your information. This will allow you to say with certainty what you know and what you don't. You may decide you’ve gone as far as you can with your inquiry even though you cannot reach a final conclusion. Remember that the process of inquiring is more important than arriving at a definitive answer. The learning occurs during the journey.

The activity section of this step has a chart that will help you organize and summarize your evidence for reflection. Complete the activities, Charting Your Evidence and Weighing Your Evidence, to determine how close you are to reaching a conclusion and if you want or need to collect more information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Bring both the completed Charting Your Evidence and Weighing Your Evidence to the Step Seven meeting in which you share the conclusions from your inquiry with your learning community.
